Food Technology Lab Refurbishment for The Chantry School

The Chantry School Science Laboratory

Earlier this year, we were appointed to deliver a full refurbishment of an existing Food Technology room at The Chantry School in Martley, Worcestershire, transforming a dated space into a modern, efficient, and inspiring learning environment.

The team at the school had clear requirements for the room – maximise space for pupils, incorporate as much storage as possible, and retain the existing white goods to make the project cost-effective without compromising functionality.

The full delivery and installation were completed in approximately five days, with the entire project handed over ahead of schedule in early August – allowing the school to prepare the space well in advance of the new academic year.

A Food Tech Room designed for modern teaching

One of the key challenges with this project was the need to accommodate more pupils than the original room was designed for.

Our team approached this by rethinking the layout, optimising circulation space, and ensuring every square metre delivered purpose and practicality. The result is a highly usable teaching space that comfortably supports whole-class learning and hands-on activities.

To enhance functionality and durability, we installed Trespa worktops with integrated sinks, catering-grade taps, and a comprehensive mix of base and wall storage units, ensuring the room meets the everyday demands of practical food technology lessons.

“The Witley Jones team handled all aspects of the project for us, from initial site survey and design, to dealing with the builder and agreeing timescales and completion dates. Their attention to detail was perfect, allowing us to re-use all of our white goods and ovens, saving us thousands of pounds in the process. We are absolutely delighted with the finished room, which now caters for an increased number of pupils and has a DDA compliant preparation table and sink, as well as ample storage required for a Food Tech room. We would certainly recommend Witley Jones, and we will use them again in the future”

David Darling, Director of Business and Operations, Chantry School.

A fresh, modern finish coupled with flexibility

While the school retained most of its existing appliances, we supplied and installed a new DDA-compliant rise-and-fall hob and a rise-and-fall preparation table, ensuring the space is inclusive and accessible for all learners.

A mobile demonstration table with a Trespa top was also added, giving teachers the flexibility to adapt the room layout for different teaching styles and activities.

The refurbishment features a contemporary colour scheme of Azure Blue and Surf Blue door fronts, paired with light grey carcasses for a clean, bright aesthetic. This modern palette has enhanced the look and feel of the room to help create a positive, engaging learning atmosphere.

A Project with Community Roots

As a local business, we are always proud to collaborate with schools and organisation in our local area. Not only is The Chantry located near to our manufacturing facility, the project was led and installed by former Chantry School pupils Matt Jones and Dave Teague, adding an additional layer of pride in working locally.
