Supporting Scarborough College with Bespoke Boarding Furniture for Lodge House

Creating a Home-from-Home for Senior Boarders
At Witley Jones, we’re always proud to see our furniture help bring spaces to life, especially when those spaces are designed to support young people as they grow, learn, and prepare for the next chapter.
So, when Scarborough College once again chose us to support the transformation of Lodge House, their newest senior boarding facility, we were absolutely delighted. Having worked together about 18 months earlier on another bespoke boarding project, being invited back felt like a true vote of confidence and a reflection of the trusted partnership we’ve built with the school.
Nestled on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast, Scarborough College is known for its academic excellence, strong community spirit, and nurturing approach to education. The development of Lodge House represents another exciting step forward — creating a home that offers older students both independence and a genuine sense of belonging.

A Vision for Modern Boarding
Scarborough College has long been recognised for its strong sense of community and pastoral care, providing students with more than just education but a sense of belonging. The creation of Lodge House builds on this ethos, offering older students a space that combines independence, comfort, and connection.
The idea behind the new boarding house was straightforward yet impactful: to offer senior boarders a home that supports their move into life after school, while preserving the warmth and camaraderie that make Scarborough College so unique.
As one of the College’s senior leaders shared:
“This new home will certainly be beautiful. With many rooms facing the sea, stunning gardens and many ensuite rooms, it is an exciting time for Scarborough College. Thank you to our houseparents, colleagues, parents and, of course, our incredible students for creating a home-from-home boarding.”
It’s a sentiment that beautifully captures the spirit of Lodge House — a space created for community, growth, and wellbeing.

Collaboration and Early Involvement
Our involvement started at the project’s planning stage, enabling us to collaborate closely with the College team to design furniture that addressed both the practical and emotional needs of senior boarders.
The schedule was carefully organised to coincide with the Easter break, ensuring a smooth and punctual delivery before the summer term. In a collaborative approach reflective of the project’s nature, the College chose to undertake the installation themselves, supported by our design guidance and technical expertise. This partnership enabled us to help them optimise budget efficiency without sacrificing quality or care.
Bespoke Furniture Designed for Student Life
For Lodge House, we produced 35 customised bed sets across a range of single, double, and triple rooms. Each design was tailored to the specific needs of senior students, practical, durable, and built for daily use, while maintaining a cohesive look that complements previous Witley Jones projects on site.
The furniture features integrated USB charging points and electric light sensors, supporting students’ independence and study routines. The uniform design and materials used throughout the College’s boarding houses create a familiar and consistent environment for all boarders — regardless of which house they consider home.
A Partnership Built on Trust
For Witley Jones, this project means much more than just another successful installation. It’s about being part of a school’s journey, one that keeps evolving while remaining true to its community values.
We are proud to have supported Scarborough College once again in creating a space that truly feels like home. Lodge House is not just a boarding house; it’s a symbol of what modern boarding can be: independent yet connected, practical yet beautiful, and built to nurture the next generation.
“Witley Jones have provided an outstanding service since our initial engagement. Dave, in particular, demonstrates an excellent understanding of our requirements, ensuring that each design is carefully aligned with our vision for the houses. In a sector where cost considerations are paramount, Witley Jones consistently delivers tailored solutions that remain within budget. Dave has developed a strong understanding of the College’s ethos and objectives, and his commitment to achieving excellence is evident in every project. He continually goes above and beyond to ensure the finished product meets the highest standards.”

The Result
Overlooking the sea, surrounded by gardens, and filled with light, Lodge House now offers accommodation for up to 35 senior students. It’s a beautiful, functional, and inspiring space that embodies everything the College represents.
At Witley Jones, we are honoured to have played a part in this project, and we are proud to continue being trusted by Scarborough College as their furniture partner as they expand and improve their boarding facilities for the future.
